Job Summary:
Intern will assist garden staff and volunteers with the horticultural and landscape maintenance of Central Park's gardens, featuring hundreds of plant species.

Job Description:

Horticulture Intern – Gardens

Intern will assist garden staff and volunteers with the horticultural and landscape maintenance of Central Park's gardens, featuring hundreds of plant species.

Duties include:

·         Weeding and invasive species removal

·         Irrigation of lawns and plantings

·         Mowing and string trimming

·         Documenting site plantings

·         Planting and transplanting, mulching and/or species identification

·         Removing litter and debris from landscapes and emptying bins

·         Cleaning and sweeping paths

·         Installing and repairing fence

·         Interacting with Park patrons in a professional manner

Requirements:       

·         Background or course work in horticulture, botany, ecology, environmental studies, landscape architecture, gardening, forestry or a related field

·         Basic plant ID and knowledge of plant material

·         Highly motivated, adventurous, and responsible

·         Ability to perform heavy, physical labor on a daily basis in all weather conditions

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a group

·         Ability to interact extensively with the public and cross-functionally with CPC staff

Schedule:

Monday – Friday

7:00 am – 3:30 pm
