Job Summary:
The Central Park Conservancy is looking for a temporary part-time Public Relations Manager to assist the Communications team with media outreach and planning. This individual will focus primarily on press and influencer outreach for the Conservancy’s public programs, various institutional initiatives, and select events.

About the Park

Built between the years 1858 and 1873, Central Park is almost entirely man-made and considered to be a single work of art. Composed of natural elements – turf, woodlands, and water bodies, along with architectural elements, this 843-acre National Historic Landmark receives 42 million visits from over 9 million unique visitors each year. Founded in 1980, the mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to restore, manage and enhance Central Park in partnership with the public.

Job Summary

The Central Park Conservancy is looking for a temporary part-time Public Relations Manager to assist the Communications team with media outreach and planning. This individual will focus primarily on press and influencer outreach for the Conservancy’s public programs, various institutional initiatives, and select events.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of media plans.
  • Draft, edit, and proof pitches and press releases.
  • Secure placements in print, television, radio, digital and social media outlets.
  • Develop and maintain targeted media lists of traditional and new media contacts.
  • Track and report results of media outreach to internal stakeholders. 
  • Monitor media mentions and assist with internal clips distribution.
  • Collaborate with Communications staff to implement cross-channel communications strategy that encompasses social media, website, and internal outlets.
  • Manage press and photo requests.
  • Manage press at select events.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Proven ability to secure media coverage across channels
  • Minimum two years’ experience in public relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with and influence internal and external partners
  • Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Adept at multitasking and managing multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or part of a group
  • Working knowledge of Cision and other PR tools
  • Familiarity with Central Park preferred
