The intern in the Visitor Experience Department of the Central Park Conservancy primarily supports day-to-day operations of visitor centers and kiosks by providing visitors with general information, directions, history and public programming that seek to enhance each person's experience in the Park.

Job Description:

Visitor Services Intern

The intern in the Visitor Experience Department of the Central Park Conservancy primarily supports day-to-day operations of visitor centers and kiosks by providing visitors with general information, directions, history and public programming that seek to enhance each person's experience in the Park.

Duties include:

·         Proactively greet, assist, and engage Park visitors in a professional and inviting manner

·         Provide detailed and accurate Park information and directions

·         Engage visitors in conversation about the Central Park Conservancy, Park features and history, and promote programs

·         Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming facility by: properly opening the location each morning and securing it each evening, reporting all safety issues and items that need to be repaired or upkept to supervision, and participating in regular light cleaning

·         Perform retail operations: includes stocking sales floor as needed, maintaining inventory, conducting cash and credit card transactions, and generating sales reports as needed

·         Assist a variety of programs in and around the Visitor Centers, including checking in guests for tours

·         Perform general administrative duties as needed such as answering phones and email, filing, scanning, statistics tracking, etc.

·         Perform related work as assigned

Requirements:         

·         A high level of customer service skills and interest in working with the public

·         Experience and/or interest in visitor services, retail, parks, and/or tourism

·         A desire to learn about the Park and the Central Park Conservancy

·         Ability to work productively as part of a team of staff, volunteers, and interns

·         Enthusiasm for working in different locations throughout the Park based on staffing/coverage needs of the department

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills; personable and energetic

·         Computer proficiency

·         This position occasionally requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 30 pounds) and long periods of standing as well as walking to various locations throughout the Park as needed. 

Schedule: Schedules are determined based on facility/programming needs and may change.  Regular weekend work and some holiday work is required.
