Job Summary:
The internship experience will provide an in-depth introduction to various aspects of horticultural focused volunteer work in a public space. Interns will work directly with members of the operations team performing general park maintenance and horticulture projects with groups and individual Central Park volunteers.

Job Description:

Volunteer Field Programs Intern

The internship experience will provide an in-depth introduction to various aspects of horticultural focused volunteer work in a public space. Interns will work directly with members of the operations team performing general park maintenance and horticulture projects with groups and individual Central Park volunteers.

Duties include:

·         Assist in leading/motivating small & large Volunteer Program events

·         Weeding and invasive species removal

·         Documenting volunteer hours for Volunteer Dept.

·         Assisting with set-up and, break down group projects

·         Assist in running the days volunteer event

·         Helping to identify project locations

·         Ensuring volunteers are working safely & within outlined best practices

·         Working with oil-based paint in addition to horticulture-based work.

·         Interacting with Park patrons in a professional manner

Requirements:       

·         Background or course work in horticulture, botany, ecology, environmental studies, landscape architecture, gardening, forestry or a related field

·         Basic plant ID and knowledge of plant material

·         Highly motivated, adventurous, and responsible

·         Ability to perform heavy, physical labor on a daily basis in all weather conditions

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a group

·         Ability to interact extensively with the public and cross-functionally with CPC staff

Schedule:

Monday – Friday with possible weekends

7:00 am – 3:30 pm
