843 Acres of Thanks
Central Park wouldn't look as wonderful as it does today without our exceptional staff and volunteers.
With Thanksgiving here and the holidays around the corner, we're taking a moment to review what we're thankful for. Thank you to everyone who gave time, love and support to Central Park this year! Here are a few groups we especially want to thank:
- Our Supporters
Donations by Conservancy supporters cover 85% of the $45.8 million needed to maintain Central Park each year. Thanks to our supporters, the Park has never looked as good as it does today, even as 40 million pairs of feet travel through it each year. Thank you!
- Conservancy Staff
Superstorm Sandy devastated the region, and Central Park was not exempt from damage. More than 800 trees were destroyed or damaged, along with benches and ballfield backstops. Our outstanding staff got to work immediately after the storm. In less than a week, visitors returned to a clean and secure Central Park.
- Our Volunteers
So far in 2012, our volunteers donated almost 44,000 hours of their time to maintaining the Park and keeping it green and beautiful. Our volunteers are the friendly face of the Park. They help keep our gardens vibrant and our landscapes clean. The health of the Park relies on the generosity and dedication of Conservancy volunteers.
- Our Friends on Facebook and Twitter
We love hearing from our friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter. Every day we receive messages from people around the world expressing their love for Central Park. Thank you to everyone who has shared photos, comments and memories all year!
- Community Partners
Through the Conservancy's Community Partners Program, companies and organizations in the neighborhoods around Central Park can enhance their relationship to the Park while giving back. Many of these groups use the Park on a nearly daily basis and their appreciation for their urban "front yard" is expressed through their generous support. Thank you to our community partners for their fund-raising efforts!
