To celebrate Central Play, the Conservancy's campaign to reconstruct and enhance Central Park’s 21 playgrounds, we asked Park lovers like you to send us your favorite memories – photos, poems, songs, videos and more – made in the Park's playgrounds. It's been touching to see parents and children enjoying these important pieces of the Park, and we've shared some of our favorite submissions on Facebook.
We received an extraordinary submission from lifelong Park visitor Babs Derrick. Most of the submissions we've received have been from parents, but Bab is the child in these photos. The exceptional collection, featured in the slideshow above, shows Babs, her friends and family at the West 91st Street Playground (now Safari Playground) and at other areas around the Park. The photos are almost 80 years old, but the scenes of play are timeless. The captions above are provided by Babs herself. She said her mother, the photographer, "would be delighted to know they are being shared."
