Many people have the misconception that tax dollars pay for the preservation and upkeep of Central Park. In reality the Central Park Conservancy is responsible for 85% of the cost to maintain this jewel in the heart of New York City. Only with your generous support will the Conservancy be able to keep Central Park a beautiful place for leisure, recreation and the appreciation of nature for generations to come.

    Calvert Vaux created the miniature castle in 1869 as one of its many whimsical structures intended as a lookout to the reservoir to the north (now the Great Lawn) and the Ramble to the south.
