This past Saturday, October 27, the Central Park Conservancy celebrated Halloween on the Harlem Meer and in the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center. In an event that has become a local favorite over the years — this year marked the 17th annual event — almost 650 people of all ages came out to show off their costumes, partake in fun activities, and watch their jack-o'-lanterns sail on the Harlem Meer as the sun set over the Park. Because of rain earlier in the day, most activities were moved indoors, but that didn't stop the fun!

This year's activities featured trick-or-treat bag decorating, pumpkin tales by local storyteller Dan Kistrosser, live music played on a saw by Natalia Paruz, and an exciting pumpkin carving demonstration by Dylan Lubetkin. The Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane treated children to candy donated by M&M'S WORLDŽ New York. The event culminated with approximately 50 jack-o'-lanterns sailing across the Harlem Meer towards Fifth Avenue.
