WEEKDAY Volunteer Work Sessions: Zone Assistants

Become an important member of a "zone team." Work closely with a Conservancy zone gardener and other volunteers to meet the horticultural and maintenance needs of your own zone in Central Park. This program runs year-round and is canceled only if extreme weather conditions prevail (25° F and below or 95° F and above).

Work with a group of volunteers to complete large-scale horticultural and maintenance projects throughout the Park. Corporate Groups: A Day In The Dirt

Not-For-Profit: A Day In The Dirt
|
Availability limited. Projects are pre-selected. The type of project will depend on the size of the group and the season. Typical projects are bench and pipe rail painting, raking leaves, spreading mulch, or any number of horticultural tasks. GREETER PROGRAMS
Help the Conservancy meet the information needs of Central Park’s visitors. Enhance visitor experiences by greeting, guiding, and informing people from all over the world.
Training required.
Kiosk Greeter

|
Assist visitors from one of three information kiosks. Answer Park-related questions and give directions. Hand our Park literature and maps.
|
Greensward Guide
|
Assist visitors by walking in pre-designated areas of the Park, greeting visitors, giving directions, and answering Park-related questions; assist at Conservancy events at various times during the year; assist with stewardship projects as needed.

Tour Guide
|
Tour guides with the Walking Tour Program lead groups of Park visitors on hour-long walks in various areas of the Park. Require strong background and/or interest in the history of Central Park, ability to project loudly and clearly, and ease when speaking with the public.

Visitor Center Front Desk
|
Greet visitors from the information desk at one of the Park visitor centers: Chess & Checkers House, North Meadow Recreation Center, Belvedere Castle, and the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center. Also assist staff with visitor center exhibits and encouraging through interpretation the long-term benefits of Park stewardship.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Education Volunteers
|
Assist the CPC Education Department staff who teach various programs about the built and natural environments in the Park. Types of assistance would include program set-up and breakdown, co-facilitating an education program, classroom management, and individual student attention/help during program and/or administrative tasks.
|
Office Assistants
Provide valuable support in the administration and management of the nation’s premier urban Park. Help with a variety of administrative and clerical jobs, including mailings.
Special Event Assistants
|
Promote appreciation for Central Park and support public participation at a variety of Park events. Keep score at a basketball tournament for youth.
