Not-For-Profit: A Day in the Dirt The type of project will depend on the size of the group and the season. Typical projects include raking leaves, spreading mulch, other horticultural tasks, or bench and pipe rail painting. Projects take place Wednesdays through Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. There is limited availability limited, and projects are pre-selected. A commitment of three hours is required.
School Group Community Service It is important to teach children about Park stewardship, and to have a stake in their environment and to be the future keepers of our planet. Two opportunities exist for school groups.
- Group Community Service for Ages 12 - 18
This program provides the opportunity for youth groups to participate in an ongoing restoration project in the Hallett Nature Sanctuary, a 3.5-acre preserve in the southeast corner of Central Park. Projects include invasive species removal, native species planting and the construction and maintenance of woodchip trails. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April through October; one 2-hour session available per day starting at 3:00 pm, 3:30 pm, or 4:00 pm. Maximum of 15 students accompanied by at least one adult. - Keeping it Green for Grades K-12
