Dogs in Central Park

Balto & Friend

Central Park PAWS is the advisory group to the Central Park Conservancy representing the many thousands of dog owners who enjoy the Park every day. PAWS is the voice of Central Park dog owners in a dialogue with the Conservancy to address all issues relating to dogs in the Park.

PAWS sponsors activities for dog owners and their dogs including:

  • The annual MY DOG LOVES CENTRAL PARK COUNTRY FAIR each October (photo below)
  • Seasonal tours of the Park for owners and on-leash dogs
  • Monthly Bagel Barks between February and September - coffee, bagels, and information for dog owners at different locations throughout the Park

PAWS is a source of free information about the Park’s dog world through:

  • The PAWS website: http://www.centralparkpaws.org/
  • The quarterly Central Barker newsletter sent to the PAWS database
  • Informational email communication to the PAWS database
  • Publication of an Access Guide for dog owners using Central Park

The PAWS Steering Committee is made of representatives from the many areas in the Park where dogs and their owners congregate on a regular basis, as well as representatives of the Central Park Conservancy and the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. The Steering Committee meets monthly.
