110th on 110thApril 2009 marks Duke Ellington’s 110th birthday. From the new Peter Jay Sharp Children's Glade inside the Park at Duke Ellington Boulevard (West 106th Street), across the Harlem Meer landscape and past the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in northern Central Park, all the way to the northeast corner of Central Park, called Duke Ellington Circle, the Conservancy has been hard at work restoring and enhancing landscapes for the enjoyment of over 25 million annual Park visitors and many more resident wildlife species. At the same time, distinguished cultural organizations have promoted the legacy of the "Duke", one of America's most influential musicians, through spectacular jazz programming in Harlem and the surrounding Upper Park communities. This special series celebrates the intersection of inspired landscaping and music in honor of Duke Ellington's 110th birthday. 110th on 110th is co-presented by the Central Park Conservancy, the Jazz Museum in Harlem, African Film Festival, and Jazzmobile.
