The Peter Jay Sharp Children's Glade

Storytelling at the Children's Glade

The Peter Jay Sharp Children's Glade at the Great Hill contains a series of small lawns cut out of the woodland edge and connected by numerous winding rustic pathways.  Conservancy landscapers designed The Glade to be "a clearing in the forest," and imagined it specifically as a venue for family programming. Strategically placed boulders and lush grass provide seating in this open-air auditorium.

The Conservancy hosts free family programs in The Glade on select Sundays from May through September at 1:00 pm as part of our series of multicultural performances and art workshops called A Clearing in the Forest. Visit the official A Clearing in the Forest website or our events calendar for more information on these programs.

Just a few of our most anticipated free programs in The Glade during the 2008 season are:
July 13, 1:00 pm: PercussionPlay music-jam with GlobalArts to Go
August 10, 1:00 pm: How the Elephant Got Its Trunk Back puppet show and craft workshop
September 6, 1:00 pm: Family Swing Dance Workshop, as part of Great Jazz on the Great Hill concert
September 21, 1:00 pm: Indonesian Tales of Mischief featuring live music by acclaimed storyteller Bill Gordh

The Children's Glade landscape and its ongoing maintenance and care are made possible by the Directors of The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation.
