FAQs-Visitor Centers

There are five Visitor Centers in Central Park.

Chess & Checkers House, mid-Park at 64th Street, 212-794-4064, an octagonal structure atop one Kinderberg, or "Children's Mountain," features outdoor chess and checkerboard mosaic-top tables where a game can be played by borrowing game pieces from inside.

Dairy Visitor Center and Gift Shop, mid-Park at 65th Street, 212-794-6564, a Victorian-style building, serves as a visitor information center and the Central Park gift shop.

Belvedere Castle, mid-Park at 79th Street, 212-772-0210, a 19th-century stone castle with superb views in all directions, serves as the perfect starting point for explorations into the Ramble, through Shakespeare Garden, or down to the Great Lawn. 

North Meadow Recreation Center, mid-Park at 97th Street, 212-348-4867, offers a variety of recreational activities for youth and adults, including public basketball and handball courts, basketball clinics and tournaments, walking for fitness programs, and our popular Field Day Kits.

Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues, 212-860-1370, features hands-on exhibits and programs for all ages, including weekend workshops, after-school activities, and performances. Fishing poles are available in season for use at the adjacent Harlem Meer.
