Ambassadors of Play

If you’re a frequent visitor to Central Park’s playgrounds, you might have noticed some friendly new faces amid the gaggle of pint-sized patrons.

Easy to spot with their brown caps and tables of hot chocolate, these are the Central Park Conservancy’s newly-arrived Playground Captains. Launched by the Playground Partners committee, the regularly stationed captains will visit eight select playgrounds every third Saturday bearing doughnuts, sidewalk chalk, and answers to all your questions about Central Park’s playgrounds.

The Captains’ goal? To promote stewardship, volunteerism, and the value of community to children.

“Central Park and its playgrounds are the most valuable outdoor resource to any family raising children in NYC,” says Kamie Lightburn, chair of the Playground Partners committee. “Playground Captains are ‘out in the field’ educating everyone who uses the playgrounds about Playground Partners and how they can support our work to preserve the Park’s 21 playgrounds.

Have a question about upcoming family events or membership? Want to find out how your family can help keep the Park’s playgrounds clean, fun and well maintained? Visit these playgrounds from 10 am – 12 pm Nov 21st, March 13th, April 17th, May 15th and June 19th.
