Lose yourself in the splendor of Central Park while matching your wits against your opponent's in a challenging game of chess or checkers.

Where:

Chess & Checkers House, inside the Park at 65th Street just west of the Dairy, offers 24 outdoor chess and checker tables. A pergola offers plenty of shade.

When: The Chess &Checkers House is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (4:00 pm in the winter).

How: Bring your own chess or checker pieces, or borrow them inside with a valid photo ID. Sets may be borrowed until 4:00 pm and must be returned by 4:30 pm. Advance reservations not required.

Permit Requirement: No permit required.
