Pool Grotto

The Pool in Central Park

Jutting from the southwest of the Pool, this naturalistic boulder grotto is the well-concealed reminder that Central Park is entirely man-made. Behind the boulder, a 48-inch pipe feeds the Pool fresh water from the Reservoir just half a mile south. The conduit is actually the main source of water that also keeps the Loch, the cascades in the Ravine, and the Harlem Meer filled and flowing.

Location

West Side at 100th Street.
