Japanese Zelkova Tree
The Japanese zelkova is a popular shade and lawn tree with dark green leaves in the summer and yellow to red leaves in the fall. There are several Japanese zelkovas between the Heckscher Building and Driprock Arch.

Origin: Asia

Family: Ulmaceae

Size: 50' - 80' tall, 50' - 75' wide

Form: Round

Culture: Tolerant to urban conditions, including drought and air pollution

Oblong, 3" long, ovate, serate, rough on top

Flower

1/8" long, clustered at base of new leaves, greenish

Fruit

Tiny egg-shaped droops, mature in autumn

Peeling, gray-brown revealing with orange-brown patches underneath
