The Central Park Conservancy's Summer Chess Series offers multiple opportunities for children and people of all ages to build skills over cumulative workshops, practice and play with their peers in our open sessions, and test their abilities in a Simul each month -- all while enjoying views of gorgeous Central Park.

Beginners Lectures & Open Play Sessions:
Learn to play the game of kings with professional chess teacher Jeff Kelleher in three beginners workshops. Recommended ages 6+.
Advanced Players Lectures & Simuls*:
Learn local Grandmasters' secrets to improve your chess game, then test your new skills against theirs or a friend's in the Conservancy's exciting summer-time series of chess lectures and "Simul" (simultaneous) games, in which the Grandmaster plays up to 30 participants at once, moving from board to board making one move at a time. All are welcome to enjoy the lecture and cheer on Simul participants. Official chess rating and day-of registration required for Simul participation when registered on a first-come first-served basis from 10:30 am - 11:00 am on the morning of the event.*

Open Play Sessions:
Test your skills, meet new friends, and enjoy beautiful views of the Park while playing chess on the mosaic tables under the pergola.
