Family Volunteer Day

Family Volunteer Day

Twice a year, big and little green thumbs alike can pitch in together to help preserve and beautify Central Park. Our Family Volunteer Days let you combine your family's love of the outdoors with a spirit of volunteerism.

You and your family will have fun working on horticultural projects throughout the Park: mulching planting beds, raking leaves, and sweeping paths in New York's most beloved green space. The Conservancy's horticultural volunteer coordinators will guide the project and provide you with tools, gloves and water.

Mark your calendar for our next Family Volunteer Day! These events usually take place in mid-May and mid-November each year. Check our online calendar for updated information, including times, dates and locations.

Project details and meeting sites are announced two weeks before the project. Please check back for details closer to the event.

Please note that each participant will need to sign a liability waiver and photography consent before participating; children under 18 must attend with a legal guardian who can sign on their behalf.

Free. Families only; no groups please. Ages 4+. No registration is required but volunteer spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 212-360-2751.

Things to See

  • Bank Rock Bridge in Central Park Oak Bridge at Bank Rock Bay

This footbridge crossing Bank Rock Bay was originally built of white oak – hence its early name, Oak Bridge. In 2009, the Conservancy recreated the bridge using historic photographs and original drawings.
