Spring Visitor Center Internship Program

Visitor Center Internship

The Spring Visitor Center Internship is an unpaid internship that provides the opportunity for five high school students to learn about the history and management of Central Park, improve valuable public speaking and interpersonal skills, and gain first-hand experience in how visitor centers operate in a Park that receives over 40 million visits a year.

An intern is placed in each of the Park's five visitor centers:

  • Chess & Checkers House – mid-Park at 64th Street
  • Dairy Visitor Center and Gift Shop – mid-Park at 65th Street
  • Belvedere Castle – mid-Park at 79th Street
  • North Meadow Recreation Center – mid-Park at 97th Street
  • Dana Discovery Center – east side at 110th Street

Interns will assist in the general operation of the centers, which includes actively engaging the public and assisting visitors with directions; answering questions and providing information on upcoming public programs; and assisting visitor center staff with public programs and special events.

Acceptance into the internship is through a competitive application process. Interns earn community service hours for their time and successful completion of the internship may lead to a paid, full-time position in our Summer Internship. Applications are available beginning in December.
