Mineral Springs

In the 19th century, New Yorkers flocked to Mineral Springs to “take the waters,” believing that the natural spring waters north of Sheep Meadow could cure ailments.

Calvert Vaux designed the Venetian-Moorish concession building, complete with marble panels, marble flooring, and silver taps dispensing water for five or ten cents a glass. The building was demolished in the 1950s. Today, hungry Park-goers can find Le Pain Quotidien at the site.
