Per the latest guidance from Governor Cuomo, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the NYC Department of Parks, the following activities are suspended until further notice in Central Park:

  • Playgrounds, sports and group recreation such as basketball, football, softball, and soccer
  • Public gatherings are banned in all NYC public parks through April 12, 2020

The Central Park Conservancy continues to monitor the shifting developments of COVID-19 in New York City. Central Park remains open to the public. However, to mitigate the spread of the virus and in alignment with recommendations from public health officials, tours and public programming through April 15, 2020 have been canceled, and all visitor centers are closed. While staying indoors is critical, if you must get air or walk your dog, Central Park’s lawns have been reopened to assist with the needed social distancing and for passive solitary use only. Spend just a few minutes outside, and keep at least 6 feet from others.

As of Sunday, March 29, 2020 the East Meadow is closed to support New York’s COVID-19 abatement efforts.

As of Wednesday, April 1, 2020 all Park playgrounds are closed until further notice.

Seasonal closures

  • Heckscher Ballfields closed on October 21, 2019 and remain closed to group activities until further notice.
  • Lawn Bowling and Croquet Green closed on October 21, 2019 and remain closed to group activities until further notice.
  • North Meadow Ballfields closed on November 25, 2019 and remain closed to group activities. The North Meadow is currently open for passive use only.
  • The Great Lawn Ballfields closed on December 2, 2019 and remain closed to group activities. The Great Lawn is currently open for passive use only.

Friday, March 13, 2020 - Monday, April 13, 2020

Given the recent developments regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19), in the interest of the health and safety of all of our patrons, NYC Parks is not accepting, or reviewing, questionnaires for any Film Shoots with a Set Up Start Date or "Shoot Start Date" prior to April 13, 2020. However, it is possible that that period during which Film Shoots cannot occur may need to be expanded. A decision on extending this timeline will be made on or before April 12, 2020.
