Located adjacent to the Rumsey Playfield on a plateau overlooking the Mall’s Concert Ground, the Wisteria Pergola is a somewhat secluded and peaceful spot in a busy section of the Park.
This long wooden trellis is covered in wisteria vines that bloom in the spring, shading rows of benches beneath. The Pergola was originally created as a shaded seating area for visitors attending the concerts on the Mall, a tradition that began with a cast-iron bandstand in the 19th century and continues today at Naumburg Bandshell.
