Adopt a Tree in Central Park

Create a lasting legacy in New York’s greatest green space.
Central Park's 18,000 trees are vital guardians of New York City's environmental health—absorbing 48 pounds of carbon dioxide annually per mature tree, capturing millions of gallons of stormwater, and providing essential shade to more than 42 million visitors yearly. Your gift ensures that these cherished trees—from flowering cherries to statuesque elms— continue their critical work, sustaining our urban oasis for generations to come.

Join the thousands of New Yorkers who've helped preserve Central Park's natural beauty.
The Tree Trust, a program of the Women’s Committee, provides for the permanent care of Central Park’s approximately 18,000 trees. From flowering cherries to statuesque elms, contributions to the Tree Trust ensure the Park’s trees are pruned, fertilized, and kept healthy, strong, and well-maintained.
The Tree Trust program offers many unique recognition opportunities at varying levels of contribution. For important milestones, endow a mature tree and create a living memory that will last for generations to come. Many donors choose to make a contribution as a gift in honor or memory of someone, or to celebrate a joyous occasion.
Donations of $5,000 and above are acknowledged with the selection of an existing mature tree in the Park as guided by our expert staff and a granite paving stone at the southern end of Literary Walk, mid-Park at 66th Street. A gift of $500 will help plant a sapling. You or the person you are honoring will receive a beautiful certificate with the date of the gift. Wherever you see saplings in the Park, you will know your special one is among them.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I Endow a Tree?
Endowing a mature tree requires a donation of $5,000. Endowing a family of three trees requires a donation of $12,000. With your tree donation, you may select a specific existing mature tree in the Park with the help of one of our expert arborists. The in-Park recognition for this gift is an engraved granite paving stone installed on Literary Walk.
What are the limitations to what I can include on the paving stone?
There are five tree paving stone templates to choose from. The paving stone will be engraved with the name of the selected tree species, the year endowed, your name and/or the name of someone you wish to honor or memorialize.
Donors are requested to submit their paving stone inscriptions within one year of the tree endowment date.
Will there be anything installed on or near the tree?
All paving stones for endowed trees in Central Park are installed at the southern end of Literary Walk, mid-Park at 66th Street. Plaques or paving stones cannot be installed on or near the tree.
How long does it take to install the paving stone?
Once a draft is approved, it takes approximately six to seven months for the granite paving stone to be produced, delivered, and installed. You will be notified once the paving stone is installed. If you need something immediate to present to the honoree, we are happy to provide a printed certificate.
May I choose the location where the paving stone is installed?
Paving stones are installed as they arrive. You are unable to select a designated location for installation.
I want to plant a sapling. Is there an in-Park recognition for this gift?
A gift of $500 will help plant a sapling in the Park. You or the person you are honoring will receive a beautiful certificate, including the date of the gift. Wherever saplings are planted in the Park, you will know yours is among them. With this donation, you are unable to select a specific tree, and this gift does not include a personalized paving stone.
