Wonder in the Woods

Celebrate City of Forest Day with a family-friendly morning of discovery in Central Park’s North Woods.

Start your visit at the Davis Center anytime between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm, where the Central Park Conservancy team will welcome you and get you started.

From there, follow a self-guided loop through the North Woods at your own pace. A scavenger hunt for all ages will encourage you to slow down, look closely, and discover what makes this landscape special. Along the way, keep an eye out for a playful surprises that add a little wonder to the journey.

Whether it’s your first time exploring the North Woods or a place you already know and love, Wonder in the Woods is a chance to experience this special part of Central Park in a new way.

Know Before You Go

  • Stop by the Davis Center anytime between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm to begin your self-guided experience. Event concludes at 12:00 pm

  • No registration is required

  • Families can explore at their own pace

  • The suggested loop takes approximately 30 minutes at a leisurely pace

  • The route includes hills and stairs, including a relatively steep hill and one set of stairs near the end of the loop

  • This program takes place rain or shine

  • Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes

Wonder in the Woods is presented in honor of City of Forest Day, a citywide celebration of New York City’s urban forest that encourages New Yorkers to explore, learn about, and connect with the city’s trees and woodland landscapes.
