Seneca Village Community Conversation
What was Seneca Village and why is it important? What does its history and legacy mean to you?
Before Central Park existed, its landscape was home to Seneca Village, the largest community of free African American property owners in pre-Civil War New York. The Central Park Conservancy offers programs and events to honor this thriving community's history and to engage the public in shaping a permanent commemoration in the Park.
