Whether you're an experienced player or trying chess for the first time, join us for an afternoon of casual games at Central Park's Chess & Checkers House.

This community series invites players of all ages and skill levels to connect over the game of chess in one of the Park's most beloved gathering spaces. Meet fellow players, enjoy friendly matches, and experience the Chess & Checkers House as a welcoming place to play, learn, and return to throughout the year.

Know Before You Go

  • Advance registration is encouraged

  • Participation is available on a first-come, first-served basis

  • Walk-up opportunities may become available as tables open up throughout the afternoon

  • Chess pieces will be provided

  • This event takes place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be canceled. There is no rain date. Registered participants will be notified by email if the event is canceled

  • All skill levels are welcome
