Harlem Meer Summer Festival: Los Pleneros de la 21

Founded in 1983, this intergenerational ensemble creates infectious sounds combining the raw percussion elements of Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena genres with contemporary and urban styles like son cubano, salsa, jazz, and hip-hop. Touring internationally to over 200 cities throughout the past 40 years, the group has received a Grammy nomination, a National Heritage award, and ample critical acclaim. Regarded as NYC’s Bomba and Plena ambassadors, Los Pleneros de la 21 remains a cornerstone of El Barrio and New York’s Puerto Rican community. Their community-based performances and arts education programs are integral to the cultural arts landscape in East Harlem, the South Bronx, and beyond.

The festival is free, and all ages are welcome. Check out our Event Q&As for more information.
