First Saturdays: Hallett Nature Sanctuary Tour

Calling all New Yorkers! Whether you’ve visited Central Park a hundred times or not at all, our free First Saturdays are for you.

Discover one of Central Park’s best-kept secrets: the Hallett Nature Sanctuary. Located just steps from Midtown, it is the Park’s smallest woodland landscape. The Hallett closed to the public in 1934 and remained untouched for nearly 70 years. Following a 15-year restoration project, it reopened in 2016. Today, the Hallett’s charming landscape, native plants, and wildlife make it a popular escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby Fifth Avenue.

This tour will also visit the Pond, which is known for its rock outcrops and resident waterfowl, including egrets, black-crowned night herons, and several species of ducks. The tour is recommended for those interested in an active and off-the-beaten-path experience, wildlife, or conservation.

First Saturday tours are FREE to NYC residents with advance registration and proof of residency at check-in.* Tickets are available online or in-person at our visitor centers one month in advance, but space is limited!

*Any kind of official ID or documentation with your name and NYC address (IDNYC, NYSDL, student ID, bill, etc.)
