Seneca Village Educators’ Tour

Before Central Park was built, the area from West 82nd to West 89th Street was home to Seneca Village, the largest community of African-American property owners in New York.

Join Central Park Conservancy guides on a tour of Seneca Village, the largest community of free African-American property owners in pre–Civil War New York. On this tour, visitors will explore the landscape, gain insight into this unique community, and learn about the events that resulted in the displacement of Seneca Village residents for the construction of a new park.

This tour is free of charge for NYC educators. Please register using your school email address. All tour attendees should be prepared to show valid school ID when arriving for the tour.

Please note: check in for the tour begins at 2:45pm. The tour starts at 3:00pm and end by 4:00pm.
