Central Park Woodland Walk: The North Woods

Engage your senses, calm your mind, and immerse yourself in the Park's greenery.

Our tour begins at the Dana Discovery Center, a scenic gateway to the Harlem Meer and the northern Park. From there, make your way to the Davis Center—a space for learning, connection, and community—and continue on to one of the Park’s most tranquil landscapes: the North Woods.

Discover how the North Woods of Central Park is an excellent representation of the naturalistic intent of the Greensward plan, echoing the rugged beauty of the Catskills and Adirondacks. This woodland landscape features dense plantings of trees and shrubs set amidst a backdrop of rolling hills and dramatic rock outcrops, drawing both wildlife and human visitors from across New York City and beyond. Despite its lush, seemingly wild appearance, the North Woods is a recreated woodland that is carefully managed by the Central Park Conservancy as New York City’s backyard. Join Conservancy guides to explore this peaceful landscape.
