Buttercup winterhazel is native to Japan and Taiwan. It gained the English name "buttercup" for the fragrant buttery-yellow blossoms that herald spring. This plant offers a subtler, softer appearance than the ubiquitous forsythia, which blooms at the same time. At the Conservatory Garden, you can spot the Buttercup winterhazel in the Woodland Slope.
