Mother Goose

Mother Goose

A whimsical creation of sculpted granite, Mother Goose rides through the air, surrounded by her fellow nursery rhyme characters including Humpty Dumpty, Old King Cole, Little Jack Homer, Mother Hubbard, and Mary and Her Little Lamb. The sculpture sits at the entrance to Rumsey Playfield, near other children’s features like Alice in Wonderland and Hans Christian Andersen.

Mother Goose, dedicated in 1938, was sculpted by New York City native Frederick George Richard Roth and his team of craftsmen. Roth is responsible for a number of other sculptures in the Park — Balto, the Sophie Irene Loeb fountain, Dancing Goat, and Dancing Bear.
