Red Oak

The red oak is a popular deciduous street and lawn tree with spreading branches. You can stumble upon the red oak throughout Central Park. For particularly large clusters of them, visit the North Woods or just south of Oak Bridge in the Ramble. It's easy to tell the red oak from other oak trees because red oaks' leaves contain sharp points.

    4-9 inches long, 3-6 inches wide, elliptical, sharply pointed

    Flat, saucer-shaped acorns

    Typical, yellow-green catkins that come out with leaves

    Silver-gray, rough, furrowed into scaly ridges
