East 72nd Street Playground

Adventures await at the East 72nd Street Playground. The play space includes swings for all ages, a granite-faced climbing pyramid with slides and tunnels, and a water spray feature set in a concrete fortress.

The East 72nd Street Playground is also near several open lawns for picnicking, as well as Conservatory Water—where you’ll find toy boats and the Alice in Wonderland sculpture.

The playground has been renovated at various times over the years, notably in 1969, when it was rebuilt as an adventure-style playground. This style of playground does not use traditional playground features, instead inspiring creativity and imagination with interactive, interconnected play structures. The Conservancy’s most recent restoration in 2015 aimed to honor the spirit of the existing design while modernizing it for current-day use.
