Sledding in Central Park
Grab your sled and hit the slopes after a fresh snowfall.
Enjoy a fresh layer of snow on Cedar Hill! Before you go, keep these tips in mind to help protect the Park and make the most of your snow day.
- Wait for the enough snow. Sledding is best after at least six inches of fresh snow. This helps protect the Park's hillsides and makes for smoother runs.
- Start early. The magic happens early after a snowfall, before crowds arrive and tracks turn icy. Visitors flock to Cedar Hill, which is considered the best spot for sledding in the Park. Set into the bottom of the hill is Glade Arch, named from the surrounding landscape.
- Watch for rocks and roots. Cedar Hill's slopes are dotted with rock outcrops. Stick to open, snow-covered ground, and steer clear of exposed stone.
- Give lawns a break when they need it. Some hillsides close after heavy snow to protect the grass underneath. Be sure to check our Alerts and Closures page before you go.
- Share the hill. Watch for other sledders below you, and clear the path once you've reached the bottom.
